Las Gachas: what the tour is like and what to bring

Las Gachas look like another planet. It's a bed of reddish rock with a crystal-clear creek running over it that, over the centuries, has carved dozens of deep, round pools, like natural jacuzzis in the stone. They're in Guadalupe, Santander, and one of the most requested trips from San Gil.
How the day goes
The Las Gachas tour leaves from the Casona and includes round-trip transport. You reach a select area of the creek, away from the crowds, with private access to the pools. You get in, slide over the rock and swim from one to the next; if you like, you can even try breath-hold diving.
The day also includes the Bird Cave, Guadalupe's historic center and cathedral, the museum (if open) and a typical lunch. The Las Gachas entrance is included.
What to bring
- Swimsuit, towel and a change of clothes.
- Comfortable clothes and sneakers.
- Sunscreen, a cap and sunglasses.
- Socks to slide on the rock. Socks work better than water shoes: they grip the stone.
A tip
Like all Casona tours, this one includes insurance, a guide, water and free photos and videos, so you can leave your phone in your bag and enjoy the water.
